Day 60 - Live Aboard Dive Cruise

Having dived a few places along Queensland's coast we were quite keen to get a boat out to the reefs of the Great Barrier Reef and do some diving there. So we booked this 3 day - 11 dives live aboard boat.

The weather though wasn't really on our side. On the first day it was very windy and rained a lot and quite a few people got sea sick. Luckily Luke and I had taken 2 motion sickness pills before getting on the boat. The first few dives were on the Milln Reef. The water out here was 29 C so it was actually a lot warmer and nicer under the water then above where the sea was quite choppy and didn't really look that inviting! That day we saw lots of marine life,  including white tip reef sharks and turtles.

That night the weather got a little worse and we felt very queezy in the morning. We still jumped into the water hoping that the sea sickness would subside, which it did with me, but 30 minutes into the dive, Luke had to surface to throw up.. Ewks! Nice! ( I had only drunk water that morning so this wasn't quite the carrot fest Jess likes to make out!)

In the evening we did our 3rd night dive and this one was the one where the sharks come out. Needless to say that I felt a little scared and anxious. We got told that the sharks usually hang around the boat to eat some small fish so the first thing we did was : swim away from the boat! Haha!

After 20 mins though we swam back and remained at 5m depth under the boat to watch the sharks. Indeed there were a few Grey reef sharks, which are about 2-3 m, and Bronze whalers which are also too big to mess with. But all they did really was swim around the boat and we tried to spot them with our torches in the darkness. One of them came quite close at some point, which sent my heart rate rocketing but swam off probably after he saw Luke's hot stinger suit. Hehe.

3rd day we did yet again more diving, the weather had gotten a bit better though there was no blue sky. But on our dives we saw a lion fish and a moray eel, which was cool. No more sharks. Phew!

Retards: Everyone knows one....
