Day 58 - The Far North
We moved onto Cairns, where Luke bought a birthday card for me. But I am pretending that I didn't notice. Having accomplished the motive of stopping in Cairns we left for Port Douglas.
This lovely little town has pretty little shops and restaurants and quite neat. A bit like Noosa really. By now we were truly in the tropical wet season. It was rather hot and very humid during the day and it rained every night. The humidity really gets to you after a while. Not even a cold shower works the wonders anymore. Unless you stood underneath it all day really.

Nevertheless, we made our way to Cape Tribulation the next day, which would be our most northern point before heading back south and inlands. Cape Trib is where the rainforest meets the sea and is indeed a beautiful place to stroll along the beach with it's overhanging palm trees. It looks like on a post card.
On our way there we also did a river cruise on Daintree River. Here we could see some saltwater crocs in there natural habitat. They are actually pretty hard to spot and shy away from humans (unless you fall into the river obviously, then they get pretty interested in you!)
